The community's population is over 100,000. It may be reached via the West Coast Express and Highways 7 & 1. The City is bounded by Burrard Inlet and Port Moody on the north, Port Coquitlam to the east, the Fraser River to the south and Burnaby and New Westminster to the west.

Coquitlam's Town Centre leads growth in the area and is home to Coquitlam Centre. Just to the north of the Town Centre is the large BC MLS residential area of Westwood Plateau. Near Guildford and Pinetree ways are the Evergreen Cultural Centre, Douglas College, City Centre Aquatic Centre and Lafarge Lake.

Nestled near Eagle and Burke mountains, the city boasts over 70 parks, with hiking trails, marshland and abundant old growth trees. A few suggestions to visit are Mundy Park southwest Coquitlam's large forest park with 435 acres, walking trails and two pretty little lakes. Also Colony Farm and Pinecone-Burke Mountain. Historic Minnekhada Regional Park in northeast Coquitlam features a historic lodge, many trails, picnicking and marshland teeming with wildlife.
